Abandonment and trust in God

There are many aspects of life in which we know we are not “in control”: our health, job, financial security, relationships, etc. In these and other areas, often things do not work out as we had planned, and we can become worried and sad. In this meditation we consider ways in which we can deal effectively with this and so find the peace and joy we seek:

  • We abandon ourselves and put our trust in our loving Father God, who always gives us what is best
  • When things do not work out the way we had hoped, we accept that God has allowed this to happen for a reason
  • We see even suffering as a manifestation of God’s love for us, knowing that he will bring much good out of it
  • When we live this way we find serenity, joy and peace

Prayer of the Children of God

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches us to pray to God our Father, giving us, among other things, the Lord’s Prayer, the Our Father. In this meditation we reflect on how we are to pray to our loving Father God, using texts from Scripture, St Augustine, St John Vianney and St Josemaria Escriva. We consider how:

  • Jesus himself prays to his Father
  • Our Father always hears and answers us
  • He always gives us what is best, even if it is not what we asked for
  • The benefits we receive from the very act of praying are themselves an answer to our prayer
  • We should pray with faith, confidence and perseverance
