God our Father

One of the most endearing truths of our faith is that God is not only almighty, creator of heaven and earth, but our Father. In this meditation, we use texts from Scripture, the Catechism and saints, especially St Josemaria Escriva, to consider how:

  • Jesus’ revelation that God is truly our Father is a great blessing
  • God shows that he is a Father in many ways
  • The Catechism teaches that a first consequence of this truth is that we should strive to be more like our Father God
  • A second consequence is that we should come to our Father with a humble and trusting heart

St Joseph and the difficulties of life

We all face difficulties in life: sickness and pain, the loss of loved ones, problems in work and in relationships, financial worries, temptations to sin, etc. Our tendency is to complain about them and thus lose their great value. In this meditation we consider how:

  • St Joseph faced many difficulties
  • St Josemaria Escriva dealt with his difficulties
  • God allows those he loves to endure tribulation
  • St Thomas More describes the great value of tribulations
  • We should face difficulties with trust in God and human resourcefulness
  • We can grow humanly and spiritually through our very difficulties
